Five Fun Educational Podcasts For Kids

I love a good podcast so it got me thinking and searching for some great ones that were especially made for kids enjoyment. I tracked down a few favourites to share that would be great to incorporate into your day at school.

You could trial students listening to an episode during one of your rotations in reading groups, or playing one to the whole class after lunch time as a calming down tool. You can listen to them anywhere, it doesn’t have to just be in the classroom. Listening to podcasts can also be a great tool for teaching your students note taking skills. You could set it as a homework task with students writing a summary or some key takeaways from what they learnt.

Top educational podcasts I can recommend include;

  • BTN - Behind The News now have released a podcast as well as their online show. The podcast is in short four minutes snippets. Great for your mid to upper primary students.

  • Squiz Kids - A News Podcast for Kids. Your students can keep up to date with this week’s current affairs and events. Only ten-minute episodes which include quizzes to see if they have been listening.

  • Brains On! Science Podcast for Kids. Provide great facts to answer fascinating questions each week as well as a mystery sound and a moment of um that answers a question. Each episode can go for up to forty minutes though so you may need to break it down in snippets.

  • News Time - An ABC podcast that shares the top five news stories from around the globe every Friday. Their episodes go for around 12 minutes and are interesting and informative. Especially aimed for younger infants students.

  • Tumble Science Podcast - Each episode explores stories of science discovery and include interviews with real scientists. Episodes are approximately 20 minutes long.
