A Reminder To Just Be

But really, I am just me.

Once upon a time, I saw all these as labels, as burdens, as issues I needed to work on and therefore, change about myself. Never feeling proud of myself or my achievements; I was always looking for ways to hide the real me and be who I thought others wanted. Who my parents wanted as a daughter, who my siblings wanted as a sister, who my friends wanted as a friend and who my employees wanted to employ. I was never happy. I always thought ‘one day’. One day I will be happy.

It wasn’t until I realised that one day may never come if I don’t change. If I didn’t change my thinking and my mindset. Now I choose each day to accept me. I am me and all I have to do is just be. I don’t have to try so hard or actually, even try at all. I don’t have to change. I don’t have to be anyone else but me. I don’t have to be who people want me to be. I don’t need to constantly search for reassurance that I’m okay. Because I am okay, just as I am. I accept these things about myself but don’t give significance to them anymore. It is a daily practice. It isn’t always easy. It takes courage. It take vulnerability. It takes strength and alot of inner work but it’s rewarding. It’s a relief. I feel lighter. I feel peace. I feel good. I feel happy.

I am also a leader…

I am brave…

I am free…

I am the light…

I am a teacher…

I am a mother…

I am strong…

I am a soul…

I am me.

So for those reading this today, who maybe needed a reminder. Just be.
