Getting Organised in 2021

Is one of your goals this year to stay on top of your load?

Don’t waste too much time on your lists. Write them and get started. It is very easy to get distracted and achieve very little by focusing too much on your list.

I suffer from over organization all the time. I like to get things over and done with as soon as they are assigned but then can’t find it when its needed or forget what it was all about. Or otherwise, I over-plan which is not necessary so I have wasted precious time.

This year I am focusing on ‘movement’ and getting lots of the things done from my lists.

You too can get organised this year using these following tips;

POST IT NOTES

  • use the post-it notes on your laptop for the short term, this week gottta do sorta stuff. You can label one for each day of the week or must-dos, can dos, or categories - write, do, buy, plan…

  • if you are a note maker lover, use actual post-it notes and place them around your desk or on the wall may work for you

ONLINE PROGRAMS

  • Trello is an online program you log in to, where you can create lists, boards and cards. A great tool if you are coordinating projects as you can invite your team to join in. Create as many boards as you like then break your jobs down into small processes which you can check off when you have completed it

  • Todoist is also online. You just add your to-do list and tick it off as it gets done. You can add dates and time to complete it. I started using this one last year but it is not one that I check each day, just every now and then

  • Microsoft To Do desktop app is the one I use daily. I have it on my laptop and its the first thing I check when I turn on my computer each day. You can set reminders, add due dates, and categorise all your lists. I find it very helpful to have everything in the one spot rather than so many notes in different folders in different places.

DIARIES

  • Canvast has a dateless planner and tracker so you can start again from any point in the year and pick up again if you fall off the wagon. I am so tempted to buy one

  • KMart sells a stack of cute notebooks, notepads, journals, and trackers and all at a great low price. Try not to go overboard though. Just buy what you will realistically use

CLIPS

  • we use a wall clip in our house for upcoming bills that hangs on the wall in order of the date that they need to be paid. Once paid the bill then gets filed in the filing cabinet and once every year I go through and toss the old ones out. This system works really well for us as we are not in the habit of paying a bill once it comes in but will wait to pay it a couple of days before it is due

  • we also have a paper pad on a clip which we write any food or grocery items that we have run out of. When I do my Click and Collect order I just grab the list and add it on. I used to have this on my fridge but now I love having a fridge with no magnets or anything on it so it hangs on the wall

CALENDARS

  • having a calendar on the wall is a great place to record important dates so you can see them at a quick glance or if you prefer digital, use your phone calendar app to add your special occasions and appointments

  • I use a large A3 desk pad to record upcoming events which is on my office table at home

  • having one of those family planners are great for recording multiple people’s agendas so you are not clashing or double booking yourselves

BULLET JOURNALS

  • bullet journals can be a great way to track lots of different areas of your life and your healthy habits. Using short phrases rather than going into so much detail, it’s easy to start ticking your goals off

  • only having one notebook going at a time, helps you to keep everything in the one place and better organised. Carry this with you in your bag so you can make notes or update your notes at any time

How are you getting yourself organised this year? Or are you a ‘wing it’ sorta person? We would love it if you joined the conversation and shared in the comments below.
