May 2022 In Hindsight

The street we live on is busy at the best of times, however during April and again this month; road works started. They lowered the drainage and completely tore up the road. 7 am starts to 6 pm finish. I was glad to go to work just to get away from the noise. The machinery was so loud and it resulted in the road being a dust pit for weeks. Everything was covered in dust. Everything - driveway, house, windows, cars, plants, grass front verandah, and the outdoor furniture was all a shade of brown. And me being the OCD clean freak, all the dust and dirt made it very difficult to function. Finally, five weeks later they sealed the road. Therefore our weekend was spent pressure washing everything including it taking an hour just to wash and literally scrub the car.

Adding to that it has been a crazy busy month, with so much on our calendars. You know when you make those annual appointments way in advance and then somehow they all fall in the same week. It was just one of those months where I was really managing my time and agenda to fit everything in.

I am looking forward to a quieter and calmer June.

May looked something like this…

* Home improvements - My boyfriends’ cousin is a tiler and so came to stay with us for four days and did all our tiling - our ensuite, upstairs balcony, and front verandah. One step closer…. Look so much better. He did such a good job. My boyfriend glued the drainage in, in the ensuite and sealed the tiles on the balcony for leaks. All walls have been plastered with their base coat, now just need top coat. Windows have been delivered, now just to get out in. Booked in a council clean up to pick up our old mattress

* picked up our new mattress. So soft and so good. Been sleeping so well

* my brothers’ second daughter was born healthy and without complication. Proud Aunty of Isabelle Anne Woodbury

* my parents celebrated 45 years of marriage. It was torrential rain on the day of their wedding, their reception place had a blackout so they did it all in reverse, dancing, speeches, and cake while dinner was cooked by generator

* been looking for ways to fill my Saturdays since my boyfriend works for most of the day so decided to work for AEC for Election Day. Long day 7 am to 9:30 pm but was fun seeing lots of locals that I knew and working with good people

* upgraded our Internet plan - went with Circle.Life and now have 100GB a month

* teaching Stage 1 Health RFF program - that means the same lesson 22 times over the week. The topic is safety so thankfully it is not too boring and the kids are interested. Did mean I had to mark 400 assessments and grade them for reports thou which was not much fun

* my boyfriends birthday was earlier in the month. He doesn’t like presents so just went with the one off gift and made him a photo book of Dusty; his dog who passed last year. He loved it. We also got in our last bike ride for the season

* went for my annual skin check up. Got the all clear which was I was grateful for
