Attention Teacherpreneurs

Are you at the point in your teaching career where you feel you need more, you need a change or you simply burnt or from classroom teaching?

Well, I’ve been there. Several times in fact. I got restless as a classroom teacher and was fortunate to get promoted as an Assistant Principal. I enjoyed the role but burnt out within a year. Then another promotion to Instructional Leader which was great but involved working with teachers more so than students which just as equally had its challenges.

I had lost all sense of my purpose so gave up my permanent position and retired from teaching in 2016. Only to come back to it two years later. I now work on a temporary contract each year in a more fluid role within a school. It asks so much less of me which means I can follow my passions outside of my 9-3 teaching role.

If you are pondering the options that are out there for classroom teachers consider;

  • working for a tutoring company or starting your own

  • a role within the Department other than classroom teaching

  • physical education role with a company that visits schools such as Sports In Schools

  • selling your teaching resources you have gathered over the years on Marketplace, eBay or Gumtree

  • create online content for companies such as Matific or Teach Starter

  • releasing your own content. Places to sell it include Teachers Pay Teachers, Etsy, or through your own website

  • create your own course on Teachable

  • write and release your own children books or teaching podcast
