Christmas Crafts In The Classroom
I like to leave Christmas craft to the last week of school when the routine and structure has gone out the window. It makes for a fun time with Christmas carols playing and parents invited into the room to join in. If parents are not so keen, then try asking the Year Six students to buddy up, and I am sure they will be eager to join in.
My mother likes to go to the Boxing Day sales and buy craft kits for me. What may have once been $2 is now down to 20c. It just means storing them until the following year, but it ends up being a cheap craft with no preparation needed on my behalf.
Some schools give classes a budget to buy craft kits, but if you are not so lucky Pinterest is a great platform to find art and craft ideas. Or you could consider stealing ideas from the teacher next door.
I usually give each of my students a brown bag they may decorate and to store all their crafts once they are dry. I also include creating Christmas cards, gift tags and wrapping paper for them to personalise.
For Christmas I like to include one craft each that includes;
· Reindeer
· Angel
· Santa
· Snowman
· Christmas Tree
· Candy Cane
· Bauble
· Elf
· Wreath
I try to cover all art forms and styles such as directed drawings, printables, cut and paste ornaments, following directions, painting, glitter, threading, stamping, and free choice creativity using all types of media.
