Essentials Every Classroom Needs

There are basics that every classroom hopefully will be stocked with when you walk into it. Essentials that will you use regularly, if not daily and makes life easier in the classroom.

I am talking about the teaching staples for the students learning as well as classroom staples that should be provided alongside your basic furniture in the room.

Never underestimate how much our students get out of using hands-on equipment. You can find a lot of resources online these days but nothing can beat good old hands-on equipment for your students to manipulate and use.

Practical items that I would expect to be provided in my classroom or otherwise would be putting a request in for;

  • class set of whiteboards, whiteboard markers and erasers or cleaning cloths

  • class set of clipboards

  • A4 white paper

  • art paper

  • lead pencils

  • globe

  • electric pencil sharpener

  • deck of cards

  • large dice

  • maths equipment such as counters, dice, 3D shapes, pattern blocks. Check this blog post out here

  • chalk

  • crayons or pastels

  • paintbrushes and paint

  • art drying rack

  • big book stand

paintbrushes

Just like many schools give their students a list of requirements they must supply at the beginning of the school year, I believe teachers should be able to put in a list of essentials needed to teach effectively and successfully without having to beg for it.

What are the everyday items that you use often in your classroom? The basics every school should provide? We would love it if you joined the conversation and left a comment below.
