Mathematics Resource Box Essentials

Every classroom needs a box full of hands-on maths equipment that is easily accessible. In my experience, a resource box has been provided with the basics; however there should be a Maths Storeroom to raid if you need additional bits and pieces.

If your school does not provide you with a box, it is very easy to set up your own. You either need a tray or a large plastic tub to fill. Keep it somewhere handy as you will use it in almost every lesson. If you are a casual teacher, it is a good idea to locate the maths box, as you can use these basics for so many different games and learning experiences.

Every infant's class resource box needs a class set of;

·       Numeral cards 1-30

. Number lines 1-10, 1-20

·       Ten frames

·       Twenty frames

·       Dot dice

·       Numeral dice

·       Large foam dot dice

·       Large foam numeral dice

·       Large foam 12-sided dice

·       Double-sided counters

·       Counters

·       Dominoes

·       Deck of cards

·       1-50 number charts

·       Hundreds charts

·       Whiteboards, markers, cleaning cloths

You can play so many maths games with the above materials including the popular snap, dominoes, number identification, before and after, numbers bigger than or smaller than, counting on games, odd and even card games, place value games, friends of ten games, and subitising.
