Get Creative In The Classroom For Mother's Day

It’s that time of year again where we celebrate our mothers and all they do for us and it is always a super cute idea to prepare a card and craft in class for the children to sneak home. With the aim to make mum feel extra special.

Start with; making a card and writing a special message inside is essential.

Some suggested cards you could prepare;

  • students draw a portrait of their mum inside of a card

  • create a card with the children’s coloured fingerprints all over it and add the saying My dirty little fingerprints I have left on every wall. And on the drawers and tabletops, I’ve really marked them all. But here are some that won’t rub off, I made them just for you. Because I’m thankful for a mum, who loves me as you do.

  • ask your students questions about their mum and record them on a prepared sheet. You can find one I created on Teachers Pay Teachers. Download and use for free.

  • stick a teabag to the front of the card and add the message You’re tea-rrific and I love you!

  • students draw a dandelion on the front of a card and print the saying Just one little wish for you, Mum, But it's loving and happy and true- It's a wish that the nicest and best things, Will always keep coming to you!

Crafts you could prepare in class include;

  • students each bring in a pillowcase and provide students with fabric paint to draw a picture or decorate

  • provide clear keychains and take an individual photo of each student. On one side have the photo on the other side print No 1. Mum! 2021

  • cook something in class that students can wrap in cellophane and take home for mum

  • make a bookmark and teach students how to make a tassel out of wool on the end

You must share funny stories about mums too, during the week leading up to Mothers Day. This might include picture books such as;

  • Some Mums by Nick Bland

  • My Mum’s The Best by Rosie Smith

  • Five Minutes Peace by Jill Murphy

  • I Spy Mum by Janeen Brian

  • My Mum Says The Strangest Things by Katrina Germein

  • My Mummy Is Magic by Dawn Richards

And lastly, invite your mums into the classroom ten minutes before the end of the day on Friday for a disco party. Press play on the tunes, turn it up and dance it out with your class and their mum’s. Have fun!
