Recording Your Screen For Remote Learning

It may be holidays but that doesn’t mean teachers are not still thinking of their students, program and classroom. Online learning will continue into Term Four for NSW students for at least another three or more weeks.

So whilst it is nice to imagine a life where there is no school work during the holidays, that is far from the truth. Many teachers will use this downtime to begin preparations for the upcoming term.

Remote learning means more Google Classroom, more Zoom sessions and more lessons being recorded online for your students to view. There are various platforms and downloadable extensions that are options for recording yourself and your screen online.

You do not need any fancy expensive equipment, just your laptop, which hopefully already has an inbuilt camera and microphone.

Programs you may like to try out include;

  • Loom - great for screen share and webcam and its free for educators

  • Screencastify - record, edit and share videos. This comes as a free Chrome extension

  • Filmora Video Editor

  • Panopto - free, online screen recorder which allows you to capture yourself and your lessons side by side so your students can see you while you present

  • Camtasia - a great resource to record and create professional-looking videos

  • Vimeo - free screen and webcam recorder that lets you share video messages quickly and easily. This comes as a free Chrome extension

What have you been using to record yourself while your students are learning from home? We would love it if you joined the conversation and left a comment below.
