Essentials Prior To Departure

Planning an overseas trip? These are the steps I take prior to taking off.

Book your flights - compare using Rome2Rio and then book directly on the airline website. Earn frequent flyer reward points on your Oneworld, Star Alliance, or SkyTeam account.

Take out travel insurance - Double check your dates. I personally use 1Cover. I’m a frequent flyer so I save money by taking out there 90-day annual policy. Take out travel insurance as soon as you book your flights

Apply for any visas if necessary - check Wikipedia online here for the countries you are travelling to

Register with Smart Traveller - if you're an Aussie citizen www.smartraveller.gov.au. Its a precaution in the case of an emergency.

Book flights and accommodation - Consider airport transfers to your hotel

Get any vaccinations needed - Visit your doctor at least a month before your departure date. Buy any necessary medication and visit a Naturopath for any advice.

Create an itinerary - leave a copy for your family and friends or upload to TripCase app. Do you have an idea of things to do in each of the cities or will you plan it once there? Create a calendar with your itinerary and search top things to do in each place you go. I use the TripAdvisor app for ideas. That way you can have more of a holiday than. Research before you go to release some stress while you are away.  I use Instagram for inspiration of things to do and places to see.

Download maps of your area on maps.me app. Pin places of interest on the maps

Pack your check-in bag - Ensure you are under your bag weight limit for your airline and the ticket you purchase. Is it 15kg? 20kgs? 30kgs? Pack your carry on bag and double-check you have your passport packed.

Prepare your house - clear out your fridge and freezer and turn it off. Ask someone to collect your mail and water any plants. Vacuum, change your bedsheets, wash and wipe up - leave the house clean so you can return to a clean place.

Is there anything else you do prior to leaving? We would love it if you joined the conversation and left a comment below.
