End Of Year Letter To Parents

Do you send home an end of year letter to your class parents?

As a Kindergarten teacher I felt it was so important to reflect on what a year it has been for the students. Their first year of formal education. There are always such huge changes and special bonds that are made.

It don’t underestimate what a privilege it is to work with these children. Often spending more time with them each day then they do at home with their parents. It is a big thing for parents to release control and trust someone to care for and educate their child. It was always something I treasured.

This is a copy of something I found online many years ago and have adapted it to my situation. You too might like to adapt it as well.

I mean it, I mean every word. You fall in love with these kids. Each child is a teacher too and I am always learning from them. I find teaching immensely rewarding.

happy kids

Today I give you back your child, the same child you confidently entrusted to my care at the beginning of the year. I give them back a bit heavier, much taller, months wiser, more responsible and more mature than they were back then.

Although they would have grown in spite of me, it has been my pleasure and privilege to watch their personality unfold day by day.

I give them back reluctantly, for having spent much time together in our crowded classroom, we have grown close, have become a part of each other, and we shall always retain a little of each other.

We have lived, loved, lighted, played, learned and enriched out lives together this year. Each child has made me a better teacher and left an impact on my heart. I wish it could go on, but now I give them back to you. Take care of them, for they are precious.

Remember that I shall always be interested in your child and their destiny, wherever they go, whatever they do, whoever they become. Their joys and sorrows I’ll be happy to share.

Do you try to put in words what it has been like working with your class at the end of each year? I like to reflect on the year, even create a slideshow of photos taken throughout the year to watch and celebrate our learning and achievements throughout the year.

We would love if you joined the conversation and left a comment below.
