Hands Off! Maths Manipulatives Online

In our return to school in a couple of weeks, we have already been told there is to be no sharing of equipment.

That means no sports equipment at playtime or during sports lessons, no numeracy equipment during maths and no developmental play for the infants. Students are to bring their own pencil cases with the stationary they will need each day, and for our older students, their own devices.

To supplement this restriction there are places where we can find resources online, such as dice and hundreds charts.

If this is the case at your school, make sure to check out;

  • Toy Theatre - is the place to start. Bookmark and save this site. It has every maths item you can think of - geometry boards, fraction bars, clock faces, classroom timer, place value charts and absolutely so much more

  • large online stopwatch or countdown - make it full screen and watch the bomb tick down

  • Didax - another great site with a range of virtual manipulatives

  • online dice and coin flip - is on Free Online Dice whcih takes away the noise of studenst rolling the dice on their tables

  • deck.of.cards has playing cards to replace your pack of cards

  • Room Recess has a geoboard which is great for 2D space

  • Interactive Number Charts are on Math Playground - great for explicit teaching of particular skills

If it is other virtual manipulatives, other than maths that you are after check out;

  • Online Pianist - play the keyboard from your device

  • Reading books - sign up to Bug Club, Epic, Studyladder or watch StoryOnline

  • Maths skills - sign up to Prodigy, Mathletics or Matific

Has your school limited the sharing of equipment? Or is nothing off limits? We would love it if you joined the conversation and left a comment below.
