Discover Doha In A Day

The city of Doha in Qatar is a great stopover for three or four days. There is lots on offer and so much to see in this short time. A warning though - it is extremely hot in Doha so be prepared to sweat uncontrollably or otherwise plan to go at a time when it is a little cooler.

I splurged and stayed at the Best Western Hotel Muscat in West Bay close to Souq Waqif. Their buffet breakfast is magnificent and one of the best I have had around the world. Incredible! Trust me and it is open for hours! This is a great area to stay and there are plenty of dinner options in the Souq, lots of shopping and people everywhere.

It is possible to see Doha in a day though. It is an effort and you will need to start early and finish late but if it is all the time you have, you will make the most of it.

Stay in the West Bay area or Souq area. Get up early for a walk through Souq Waqif. Explore the markets in alleyways. You can find everything for sale here. Continue walking along the waterfront promenade. This area is known as Corniche. Continue until you get to West Bay and see the Teapot Sculpture.

Come back via the old and beautiful Clock Tower for a look-see. It is located next to the Grand Mosque. The old clock tower features Arabic numerals on its face. Then head to the nearby Msheirab Museum for a visit. A historical museum in four beautiful grand homes; all white buildings or keep walking a little further to check out the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA). Another incredible building and great views of the newer part of the city.

Around this area, you also have the AlKoot Fort which is a 1920’s Fort come museum. It is in great condition and provides an interesting history of Qatar.

You have probably had enough of museums so stop for lunch at The Pearl and make sure to try the fresh food at Jones the Grocer.

In the afternoon, visit the National Museum of Qatar - this place is definitely worth a visit even if you don’t go in, the building is incredible. But seriously great exhibitions inside, very interesting and informative and well priced. Finish up at sunset so you can take some awesome pictures with the building and the sunset behind.

Head back to the night markets at the Souq, stopping by the Camel Pen for a photo opportunity and to see the Camels grazing. Then chose from a huge variety of cuisine to eat for dinner at the Souq. Before retiring for the night from a busy day.

Any long distances, it is very easy to hail a taxi or Uber. Trips are very cheap and will save you a tonne of time. If you are unable to use your phone, get your accommodation to call and book it and then be prepared to pay in cash.

There is the Hop On Hop Off Doha bus also which takes you around to all the main attractions.
