Food Is Medicine - Cleansing Time

Did you along with many other people enjoy yourself over the Christmas and New Year break indulging in all the goodies and now regretting it? Have you noticed you are more sluggish or bloating? Now would be a good time to give your digestive system a break and cleanse.

For three days, carefully consider what you eat and drink. If you can do it for longer, even better.

Attempt to avoid

  • Fried foods

  • Dairy - soft cheese

  • Alcohol

  • Bread

  • Meat

  • Processed or packaged foods

  • Sugar – this includes in sauces, dressings, cereal, yoghurt, soft drink

  • Coffee – or at least not on an empty stomach

  • Onion or garlic

Attempt to

  • Increase the amount of fruit and vegetables you eat

  • Go for a ten minute walk after eating breakfast, lunch and dinner

  • Cut back on salt intake

  • Reduce your stress levels

  • Create a sleeping routine

Things to eat over the three days

  • Tofu

  • Beans

  • Lentils

  • Nuts – almonds, walnuts, cashews, pine nuts, pepitas

  • Add spices or herbs to your meals

  • Salads

  • Stew

Food is medicine for your body and it is always important to consider what you are eating.

I am obviously not a doctor or healthcare worker. The above techniques work for me but may not work for others.
