Get Creative With Your Art Lessons

When you walk into a classroom one of the first things you notice is the art work displayed around the room. Well, I do anyway.

I don’t mean to sound judgmental but you are instantly struck by either how bright and colorful the room is decorated by the children’s artworks or how something is lacking when nothing is displayed.

I understand that it does take time to name each art work and then hang it, peg it, pin it, stick it, up. There are a few short cuts you can try;

  • give this job to any parent volunteers

  • bring in some Year 6 helpers at lunch time

  • staple the art work and it slide on your line easily

  • have stickers with your children’s names printed on them so they are ready to go

  • get the children's to write their own name - not so pretty but saves you time

  • have pegs stuck on your windows so children can easily swap out their own art work

  • have art work folders so children can slip their art straight in after it has been taken down

  • The Kitchen Table Classroom gets into the real nitty gritty of art. Great place to delve deeper into the art concepts

  • The Art of Education Lesson Plans - this website has hundreds of art lessons for K- 12, saving you a tonne of time

  • If you are a preschool or Kindergarten teacher then the place to go is The Little Big Book Club. Each month, they produce an Activity Time and Learning Time sheet which complements the featured picture books. I love this idea plus it is all free to download
